brief History of South Lake
Ski School.
Back in 1996, two desperately enthusiastic tournament
skiers got together to create and build their Dream... South
Lake Ski School.
Over the years, the club has become very well
established, and highly regarded for it’s high level
of tuition & coaches, and it’s enthusiastic &
friendly environment. South Lake Ski School has gradually
grown to become the enjoyable experience that it is now, offering
a recently refurbished (in 2004) clubhouse, professional level
of equipment, and a large group of regulars. The facilities
are constantly being upgraded, and the club is now a long
way from the original “hut next to a lake”.
| Paul Hammersley:
A butcher by trade and experience and a relatively
late discoverer of water-skiing (was more interested
in football in his 20s), Paul was born a few years after
Tony (later 50s) and now lives and breathes water-skiing
24 / 365! Jump, slalom and trick - in that order, are
his enthusiasms and nothing detracts from his desire
to share this with anyone who will listen. Paul has
also ski-ed for Great Britain in Moissac, France 2000.
Paul has won the Eastern Regions Overall Championship
3 years running and the International Seniors overall
in Greece in 2000.
During 2006, Paul added the following to his CV...
European Team Gold & World Senior Silver medals,
European Senior 2 Jump Silver medal & Overall Senior
2 Silver medal, Senior 2 Slalom Champion and finally,
British Senior 2 Slalom Champion.
British Snr 2 Jump Champion 2007 & 2008
British Snr2 Overall Champion 2008
When his body doesn't ache too much, he enjoys some
vigorous wake-boarding and snow-boarding.

Tony Song:
A car specialist in his spare (that is 'non skiing')
time - born in the very early 50s, respected and admired
for his understanding of skiing and his skill and coaching
ability in all 3 tournament disciplines, and pretty
much anything else that involves a speed boat and a
rope. Tony has represented Great Britain in the 1999
European senior competition in Russia, winning an individual
and team bronze medal.
In 2006, Tony added further to his achievements. These
include becoming a British Senior 3 Slalom record holder,
and in Durban, he won European Team Gold and World Senior
Team Silver medals.
Is Tony the only 50+ year old able to do a flip on
a wakeboard? Let us know! Try to catch him on the ski
slopes - also unlikely, he's as quick on his snow skis
as on the water. |
